‘Musical space station’ heads for West Berkshire village church
If you caught The Blackheart Orchestra in Newbury last year, you’ll agree with our reviewer Brian Harrington that ‘their hypnotic rhythms and ethereal vocal soundscapes were wonderful’. So you may want to know the duo are back in the area soon.
They will be performing in St James Church, Leckhampstead, on Friday, November 1 (7.30pm), supported by Olga Dikajee, a fabulous Russian artist whose music combines weavings of folk, neo-baroque, neoclassical and progressive rock.
The Blackheart Orchestra is officially the smallest orchestra in the world. Two people playing up to 13 instruments between them, Chrissy Mostyn and Rick Pilkington perform in what has been described as a ‘musical space station’ of instruments including acoustic and electric guitar, bowed guitar, bass, percussion, mandola, piano, organ, omnichord and vintage synthesisers.
Leckhampstead organisers say: “We are delighted to welcome back The Blackheart Orchestra to St James Church, bringing their contemporary, award-winning rock music to Leckhampstead.”
The Blackheart Orchestra are multi-award winning, multi-instrumentalists who have been described as a modern day Pink Floyd, with influences from as far afield as Kate Bush, Portishead and Cocteau Twins to modern composers Steve Reich and Philip Glass.
Their last two albums both achieved Top 20 positions with latest album Hotel Utopia charting at #13 in the UK and winning Best British Album, Best Song and best Female Vocalist in the USA Progressive Rock Awards. The Blackheart Orchestra currently sits on six Best Albums of the year lists in the UK.
Doors open at 7.30pm and there will be an open bar with refreshments throughout the evening. Tickets are £18 per person and are on a first come, first served basis – so book now using the link below, before the rush.
There is free parking in the field opposite the church.
