Newbury drink-driver Paul Daly failed to stop after crash

A DRINK-driver failed to stop after an accident.

Paul Daly appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 3.

The 59-year-old, of Speenhamland Court, off Pelican Lane in Newbury, admitted driving a Volvo XC90 on the Old Bath Road in Newbury on Monday, June 10, after drinking more than the legal limit.

Tests showed 225mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system - more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit of 80mg.

He also admitted failing to stop despite having been involved in an accident which caused damage to another vehicle, on the same occasion.

Daly, who was legally represented by Robert Jacques, was fined £40.

In addition he was ordered to pay £85 costs plus a statutory victim services surcharge of £16.

Finally, Daly was banned from driving for 28 months.
