Spectacle of Light, at Welford Park, home of the Great British Bake Off, returns to offer a quiet alternative to fireworks
Thousands of people enjoyed the opening day of a spectacle of light and tranquillity at a West Berkshire estate.
This autumn sees the return of Welford Park’s Spectacle of Light for a second year and this time there’s a renewed focus on providing a quiet, sensory experience.
It offers visitors the opportunity to see the home of The Great British Bake Off illuminated at night, with trees and the house lit up and lanterns lining the wooded pathways.
The event sees a carpet of colour light up the trails through the park’s woodland and around the gardens, with installations accompanied by atmospheric music.
“We were delighted to reopen Spectacle of Light for its second year,” said Will Puxley, co-owner of the Welford estate and whose brainchild the event was.
“It was fantastic to see so many returning visitors as well as many new customers and we look forward to the rest of the event
“We have had such good feedback for being a real quiet, sensory experience,”
“It is a quiet alternative for people. Welford is all about nature and quiet and calm.
“The event is also the quiet alternative to a dog’s worst night of the year.”
Last year’s inaugural event was given a boost by TV presenter Clare Balding.
She posted on social media after her visit and said: “What a brilliant idea – no big bangs, just lovely light and gentle music.
“Here’s a dog friendly light show in the beautiful setting of Berkshire. I’d love to see this idea spread around the country.”
And there is also a bar, serving hot chocolate and spiced cider, as well as local hot food available as families wander through the visual spectacular.
The Spectacle of Light runs on selected days from October 18 until November 10.
