NWX win Kingsclere clash to go top of Newbury Sunday League
NWX have pulled out a three point lead at the top of Newbury Sunday League.
The defending champions faced off against Kingsclere at Kintbury on Sunday morning, with both sides level on twelve points and both unbeaten going into the game.
Kingsclere hadn’t conceded a single goal in their opening five games, while NWX had allowed just two themselves.
Someone’s ‘0’ would have to go, and it was NWX who defended theirs in emphatic fashion.
Charlie Knight stole the show for the hosts, bagging a brilliantly taken hattrick to put NWX well in control.
Kingsclere’s hopes of any kind of fightback were ended by Harry Murtagh, who struck to make it 4-0.
Kye Williams made three assists in an outstanding creative performance, while Joe McQuilkin made one of his own.
The result sees NWX retain their spot at the top of the league ahead of their BBFA Sunday Cup clash with Reading based Give Back FC.
Kingsclere will look to bounce straight back this Sunday, but it won’t be easy.
Their opponents, Frilsham, faced Diamond FC on Sunday and suffered a similar fate.
Goals from Zander Carnwath, Journey Waters, Ty Driscoll and MJ Godfrey saw Diamond soar to a 4-0 victory after a slow first half.
The result keeps them in third, ready to capitalise on any slip-ups ahead of them.
Those were the only two games played on Sunday thanks to waterlogged pitches.
This weekend also sees Aldermaston host Diamond, while The Crickets visit Plough on the Green.
